Specialist ocular imaging and research centre
Photographer: Anthony Fretwell
Guide Dogs NSW/ACT appointed BigCity Design to undertake feasibility studies to develop an accommodation brief and strategic plan for the development of this landmark research facility. A specialist ocular imaging centre, to be wholly funded by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT.
Ultimately the client stated that the users experience was most important and to create a facility akin to a hotel-feel, tailored to a vision impaired customer base. BCD then undertook the design and management of this 1,000sqm project to final completion, over a two year period.
“Centre for Eye Health (CFEH) is an initiative of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and The University of New South Wales (UNSW). The Centre provides state-of-the-art eye imaging and visual system diagnostic services to the general community, at no charge. It is also Australia’s first eye-health facility to offer a comprehensive service free of charge to the general public and eye-health practitioners.”
